Temporary Registration
If you’re ill while away from home or need to see a doctor but aren’t registered with one, you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP practice for up to 14 days. After that, you’ll need to register as a temporary or permanent patient.
You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months, allowing you to stay on the local practice list while remaining a patient of your permanent GP. After three months, you’ll need to re-register as a temporary patient or register permanently with that practice.
To register as a temporary patient, simply contact the local practice you’d like to use. Practices are not required to accept temporary patients, but they will provide emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice where you are already registered.
